Introduction: The object of this short report is to explain the difference between "The Big Five" Anti-Aging Hormones: (1) HUMAN GROWTH HORMONE ("HGH" or "GH"), (2) The sex hormones: TESTOSTERONE (and ESTROGEN and PROGESTERONE...), (3) ERITHROPOYETIN ("EPO"), (4) INSULIN, AND (5) THYROID. "According to Ellis" these are the five most important anti-aging hormones because they are the most DRAMATIC in their benefits.
There are in fact at least two other hormones that we know fall with age, and maybe there are others... but they are not as dramatic as The Big Five. They are: DEHYDROEPIANDROSTERONE ("DHEA") and MELATONIN.
The Big Five and the Little Two:
the big five: Growth Hormone
(pituitary gland), Testosterone (testes), EPO (kidneys), Insulin (pancreas),
and Thyroid (thyroid gland)... and the little two: DHEA (adrenal glands)and Melatonin
As far as I know, I am the only person in the world that is taking all seven of these hormones correctly, as part of an anti-aging program. I wish I could tell you that there is a doctor somewhere in the world who also takes these seven hormones, but I still don't know one. There are about 20,000 doctors affiliated to the American Academy of Anti Aging Medicine, and not one of them uses insulin if he is not a diabetic, that I know of... and there is not one that uses EPO to raise his red blood cells, to prevent senility, as I do. And both of these are "Major League" hormones "according to Ellis."
That, however, is besides the point. It doesn't matter to me what doctors think. I am The Mighty "Amazing Dirty Old Man WHO DOES NOT GROW OLDER" and I think for myself. I don't do anything just because doctors approve or disapprove of it, or else I know I would be growing older faster than I am now. I learned to use all these 7 hormones either directly from friendly doctors, or from their books, or from discussions in my forum Rejuvenation... but no doctor uses all seven hormones, that I know of.
I use the exact dose of each hormone that I want to use, and I use it at exactly the right time. Together with a relatively much better diet than I was taking before I learned to eat to keep my glucose levels better controlled, and some exercise, I think this is the reason why I am not aging as quickly as others. (I know my diet is much better than before "BECAUSE THE GLUCOSE METER TELLS ME SO.")...
I take 2 iu of injectable HGH every day in the morning... I have taken
HGH nearly every day without exception since JUNE, 1998.
I have taken a small dose, 40 to 100 mgs, of Testosterone about once or twice or three times every month since about February, 2000, in no particular pattern... and I stop taking testosterone for a month or two, sometimes... I also take Arimidex, which blocks the enzyme which allows Testosterone to convert to estrogen, thus avoiding most of the bad side effects of taking testosterone at all.
I raised my hematocrit (the percentage of volume of blood that is occupied by red blood cells) by injecting enough EPO as was necessary to reach 52% hematocrit in 2002, and since then I have taken a maintainance dose as necessary to keep my red blood cells at a constant 52% to 54% hematocrit. Average for the population is 45% at sea level.
I live in Mexico City, which is 2200 meters above sea level... 47% Hematocrit is "average" here, so I have raised my red blood cells about 10% to 15% above what it would have been otherwise... It is at about the level that it would be if I lived in a village at high above sea level in Tibet... or in La Paz, Bolivia, which is nearly 4000 meters above sea level. But I don't live at 4000 meters above sea level, I live at 2200 meters above sea level, so I FEEL very good and full of energy with extra oxygen running through my body.
And I have taken insulin several times a day, starting in June, 2002...
Today I take 10 iu Lantus in the early morning, and I take 0 or 1, or 2, 3, or 5 iu of Humalog to bring down my blood glucose whenever my blood glucose is above 100 mg/dl or to prevent it from going high if I know I am about to eat. I take another 5 iu of Lantus at night, anytime after 6:00 P.M.
The REASON why I call "the Big Five" the "Major Leagues" is because these five hormones are DRAMATIC in what they do for us.
I also replace the "Little Two" (DHEA and melatonin) but I don't really know what these hormones do for me because they are not as dramatic in their benefits as "The Big Five"... I take them more on FAITH that I should take them as part of my program, than because I think I need them to stay young and healthy.
MY DOSE OF THYROID IS ZERO... That is, it is a conscious decision that my dose is zero, because I don't need it yet... It is not an omission, it is a deliberate decision.
I am often asked what do all these hormones DO...?
And I am asked to give my opinion on which of these hormones is more important than the others, as if it is more important to grease and oil a car than to replace the brakes when necessary.
The answer is that they ALL are extremely important... but if I would have to choose just ONE hormone to take with me to the moon to replace, I would choose to take INSULIN.
Insulin is the single most important hormone that I think is important to replace because it keeps blood glucose lower than it would be, 24 hours a day... This prevents something called "glycosilation" which means that a molecule of glucose adheres to a molecule of protein, and damages it. Glycosilation causes a loss of neurons in all my body and my brain, and I think this is the single most important anti-aging therapy that I should do to stay in good mental and physical health.
Growth hormone is
like sending a car to the shop to get everything fixed and repaired... Growth hormone
strengthens the immune system, it makes bones absorb more minerals, it makes the
circulatory system larger (it builds more capillaries, veins, and arteries), and
it heals injuries or broken bones, faster.
EPO raises red blood cells, which carry oxygen... it is like using rocket fuel instead of regular gasoline...
Testosterone is the male hormone and it increases muscle strength, among many other important things... it is like changing a 200 HP engine for a 350 HP engine... (and then it helps to make or practice to make new little cars!)
And Insulin is like greasing the car and changing the oil: it prevents friction, thus it prevents damage. Insulin prevents the circulatory system from getting clogged up and damaged with HIGH SUGAR.
The health of your circulatory system affects EVERYTHING in your body... every single cell, every neuron... every bone and muscle... in your body has to receive blood, or else it dies. If the circulatory system is clogged up and damaged by SUGAR, then blood cannot circulate in optimum manner, and some cells in your body will suffer.
Thyroid is like the carburator of a car... I don't use thyroid, but if I did it would be extremely important. The carbutator of a car regulates how gasoline is burned, and thyroid regulates the rate at which we burn energy in our body. Fortunately, blood tests show that my thyroid is still working pretty well, so I don't have to worry about it. So my dose is "zero" thyroid.
There are other very important hormones in the human body. Among these I can mention Luteneizing Hormone, Follicle Stimulating Hormone, Thymus, Oxytocin, Amylin, and Prolactin... They are all very important, I'm sure, but fortunately I don't have to worry about them for now.
And the Winner of "The Single Most Important Hormone That I Replace" is: INSULIN!
Insulin wins because it helps to keep blood glucose levels under control 24 hours a day, every day. This prevents loss of NEURONS, which IS YOUR BRAIN! (I consider MY BRAIN to be the single most important part of my body, even though staying alive depends on many other organs. MY BRAIN IS ME. If I don't have a brain, I am an oyster... and I would rather be dead than be an oyster.)
Followed very closely by Growth Hormone, which is amazing because it is so dramatic in its benefits, with no side effects if used correctly...
And Testosterone (or estrogen and progesterone), which is a lot of FUN (so you can be a "Dirty Old Man" or woman...) besides making your body esthetically nicer, and more sought after...
And EPO which is fantastic because you will LAST LONGER and WITH MORE ENERGY... and you will KNOW IT....
