What's In It for Me: I earn bonus vacation points if you buy a membership, for inviting you. A Funny Thing Happened To Me On The Way To The Forum... About 6 months ago, I placed a free ad in Craig's List and in Timeshare User's Group to rent out my week 12, 13 and 14 at the Royal Mayan in Can Cun... I soon rented out my week 12 Easter week for $1500... but Week 13 and 14 had not rented yet... So about 3 months ago I went to see if my ad is still showing in TUG classifieds... and it was, but... there was ANOTHER ad for a Villa at the Royal Mayan week 13 for $900... $900???? I thought: I won't be able to rent out my week 13 if this guy is renting his Villa for $900... So... Timeshare Expert that I think I am... I know what I'll do... I'll RENT his Villa for $900, then I will rent my place out and I will be able to pay for the other, and probably also earn a few dollars... and maybe I will also rent his place out for $1200... etc. So that is what I did... I paid $900 and I rented the other guy's week 13... But then... I DIDN'T RENT my weeks 13 or 14... and now I had TWO week 13's... Timeshare Expert in trouble... As time approached, time was running out and I finally decided I had to do something DRASTIC... fortunately, I recently renewed my 30 year membership at Vacation Clubs, and they gave all of us automatic membership in Interval International... So... two weeks ago I called up I.I: and I deposited MY week 13... So now I only had one week 13 and one week 14, and one week that I can draw from Interval in the next two years... that is not a worst case scenario, in fact it is a delight to be FORCED to go to Can Cun to my own week 14 which is an Executive Penthouse... and I can get something later with Interval International, maybe for London or somewhere else that is a good trade for my Royal Mayan week 13. But on Wednesday before the start of week 13 I got a last minute call from somebody who saw my free ad on Craig's List and whose own timeshare plan somewhere else had been fouled up... and she needed to rent the Suite portion of my advertised Villa. So... I rented the suite portion of my remaining Villa, which is the Villa that I rented for $900, for $160 x 7 = $1120. So this leaves me with a small profit of $220, plus one lock-out week 13. And the person who rented the suite from me also gets a beautiful suite in the best timeshare development in Can Cun, so I hope she is happy too. So... I got back my $900, plus a little profit which I will show you what I did with it... plus the lock-out of the Villa week 13, which is where I am going to stay week 13... That is o.k... I have stayed in a lockout before, and I have also stayed in a hotel room at the Hilton.... And a lockout at the Royal Mayan is much more pleasant for me than a hotel room at the Hilton, because I feel so much at home at the Royal Mayan. And the second week, 14, I will stay in my whole Executive Penthouse, so memory and impression of my vacation will have a happy ending. But then... I am arriving Monday instead of Saturday, because I didn't want to miss Rod Stewart in Concert... So... I extended my vacation by TWO NIGHTS at the Fiesta Americana, in the equivalent of a suite at the Mayan, ie, a bedroom, plus living room, kitchen, and balcony... for $180 for TWO nights... So that is paid by the "profit" I made in the rental and I time shifted my vacation... I am staying the full 14 days...
