* * * Will HGH offset or promote diabetes?
Gentlemen, Sam Here,
I am about to start with 1 iu of HGH per day, seven days a week, and I will adjust as I may, (or may not) need to.
I am wondering what effects HGH (Saizen in my case) might have on someone like me who is saturated on both sides of the family with diabetics, including my mother, my father, both sets of grandparents, and many of my aunts and uncles.
I have always been overweight and have not been able to lose fat even when I work out everyday for years on end. If I don't lose weight I will become diabetic... but I am not sure if HGH will offset or promote diabetes.
Can you shed some light?
Thank You,
Sam
Ellis: [Hello Sam.
You ask an interesting question. To answer, I will use the
analogy of a car, again.
You have a car that needs brakes, and you are asking me how
much will changing the brakes affect how fast the car will
wear out due to friction?
The car will wear out due to
friction if you do not put in oil and grease... and the car
will crash if you do not fix the brakes.
If you fix the brakes, the car will be able to be used more. So if you do not also put in oil and grease, then your car will wear out sooner... but it won't wear out sooner because you fixed the brakes, but because you didn't change the oil and grease.
So... to answer your question: You might become diabetic if you take growth hormone, but it won't be because you took growth hormone, but because you haven't been eating correctly for many years previously. And if you become diabetic, growth hormone might increase resistance to insulin, but that is not going to matter much if you eat correctly and control your blood glucose.
And I DON'T CARE AT ALL if all of your parents and grandparents and aunts and uncles HAVE DIABETES. "According to Ellis" diabetes is NOT inherited, it is LEARNED.
That's right. YOU LEARN to be a diabetic. If you EAT like
your mother and father, and your grandparents, and your aunts
and uncles, then YOU will become a diabetic also.
And if YOU DO NOT EAT like they do, and how you have LEARNED to
eat until now, then you have a chance of breaking the vicious
cycle and NOT becoming a diabetic for a long long time.
You see: it isn't THE FALL from an airplane that kills... IT IS
THE SUDDEN STOP AT THE END...
and IT ISN'T DIABETES that kills... it is the HIGH BLOOD GLUCOSE LEVELS over many years...
And it isn't BAD GENES or BAD LUCK that causes diabetes... it is BAD EATING HABITS... Too much SUGAR in the food that you choose to eat... it is your choice... Sugar raises your blood glucose, and this occurs over a period of many years, so you burn out your pancreas...
It took me more than 50 years to finally learn that sugar IS 100% Carbohydrates, and carbohydrates are what raises blood glucose.
MY OWN mother and father were diabetics. My father injected
insulin from about age 60 until his death at age nearly 94.
And MY MOTHER did NOT inject insulin (big mistake...) and she
died much younger than my father, directly from leukemia, but
indirectly from not injecting insulin, because I think her
leukemia might have been caused or fed by high blood glucose.
I think she could have controlled her blood glucose a lot better
than she did if she had used insulin. Instead she tried to
control it by diet, as the doctors thought insulin was bad, so
not-insulin was better in their view.
I can't prove it, but after all I have learned about how insulin
affects MY blood glucose and how high blood glucose affects
diabetes, and the mistaken standards of blood glucose that doctors
think are o.k., I think it is very possible that her leukemia was
caused by her doctors bad advice and fed by high blood glucose.
But the point is: I LEARNED to eat as my mother and father
ate. And... my French mother born in EGYPT was A TRULY GREAT
COOK. The SPAGHETTI with CHICKEN, and the RICE with Curry, and
the delicious FRENCH FRIED pototoes and BAKED BANANAS A LA
TEMPTATION and ARAB COOKIES AND PERFUMED DESSERTS were all fantastic.
I mean it, she could have won contests for gourmet DESSERTS that she invented.
It was all very DELICIOUS but, now I know, also very bad for
my health because eventually by the time I figured out by
myself that my blood glucose levels were shooting to 170 and
180 and then dropping back to about 90, and that was BAD, by
that time I was already 56 years old...
One day it dawned on me (because I bought a blood glucose meter)
that this was BAD FOR MY HEALTH, and I better STOP doing it,
or else I would seem to prove that DIABETES IS INHERITED, when
now I am convinced that IT IS NOT INHERITED. It is LEARNED.
It is OUR RESPONSIBILITY. IT IS OUR DECISION. If YOU control
your blood sugar NOW, then YOU won't get diabetes. I don't
care how many books say that diabetes is INHERITED. It is to
your benefit to not think of it like that, and to decide that
it is YOUR DECISION and YOUR RESPONSIBILIY and not fate, or bad
luck, or bad genes that you might or might not become diabetic.
Now look at the difference... In one case, you sit back with
your arms crossed and you WAIT until you inevitably become a
diabetic. Then you blame it on bad fate... bad luck... bad genes...
But if you accept responsibility to avoid diabetes, then you
will ACTIVELY try to avoid diabetes. And the way to avoid
diabetes, or if you have diabetes already, the way to avoid any
diabetes side effects, is to NOT LET YOUR BLOOD GLUCOSE GO UP.
If you CONTROL YOUR BLOOD GLUCOSE between 70 and 100, 24 hours
per day, every day, then YOU WON'T get diabetes, or you won't
get diabetes side effects very soon.
By that, I mean, you won't get diabetes side effects until AFTER
you are dead, perhaps.
(The diabetes side effect that you get AFTER you are dead is
complete and extended NEUROPATHY. That is, you might not feel the
tips of your toes as much as you did before, and you might not be
able to MOVE very fast anymore... At that point you might decide
to try my AGE REVERSAL program... if you can move enough to try it!)
As I said once upon a time: I expect that I will die of diabetes...
but I also expect that if I control my blood glucose well enough
I might not get diabetes until AFTER I am dead...
(note: I wrote that, above, with tongue in cheek...)
So now you, my dear fat friend... You want to lose weight?
O.k., I will teach you how to lose weight.
YOU HAVE TO LEARN WHAT NOT TO EAT.
It is not a matter of doing exercise, because if you eat
INCORRECTLY, there is no amount of exercise that is going to
make you lose weight. And if you eat incorrectly, that also
happens to be what raises your blood glucose levels, and that
is what causes diabetes.
So if you LEARN WHAT NOT TO EAT, then you will lose weight
and you will also stop advancing on "The Road to Diabetes"
that "according to Ellis" we are all walking on since the
day we were born, and we will all get there someday... but
WE determine when we will get there, by how FAST WE CHOOSE
to travel on this road. Get this: YOU DECIDE how fast you
travel on this road, by the food that YOU CHOOSE to eat.
So... Lesson Number 1... STUDY MY AMAZING CARBOHYDRATE
THERMOMETER...
http://www.rajeun.net/carbotherm.html
This will teach you at a glance that nearly 7000 different
foods are all pretty easy to GROUP, into SEVEN GROUPS...
And there are only TWO GROUPS that are GOOD for you, from the
point of view that they DO NOT RAISE YOUR BLOOD GLUCOSE LEVELS
very much, or very fast, because they are LOW in CARBOHYDRATES.
And they are : ANIMAL ORIGIN and VEGETABLES
That means: YOU CAN EAT CHICKEN AND FISH AND EGGS AND YOGURT AND
CHEESE... you can also eat beef, but beef has a lot of FAT, and
FAT is your SECOND BIGGEST ENEMY.
It took me a long long time to understand that CARBOHYDRATES
are SUGAR... they are spelled differently, but SUGAR IS 100%
CARBOHYDRATE, so I finally noticed that the similarity is
striking!
FRUITS are GOOD for you AND they are BAD for you. Fruits are
GOOD for you because they contain good vitamins and good
enzymes and good fiber... but fruits are BAD for you because
in general they contain about twice as much SUGAR as vegetables
do. So... you can eat fruits, but you cannot eat as much as
you wish you could, so it is BETTER NOT TO EAT FRUITS, because
they contain too much sugar, and it is really easy to eat too
much fruits... that is, so much, that your blood glucose levels
rise too much, or else you theoretically cause your pancreas
to release insulin to keep your blood glucose low, and in so
doing, your pancreas eventually BURNS BETA CELLS (true, according to
Dr. Bernstein; not true, according to Dr. Marley...) and
eventually your response to carbohydrates gives you higher and
higher blood glucose, and eventually, diabetes.
STARCHES are mostly better to avoid, unless they have something
good to contribute to your nutrition. Potatoes have nothing
good to contribute... Corn has nothing special... Rice, nothing
special... but BEANS and NUTS have about 6% to 8% of protein,
which is a lot for non-animal-origin... And beans also nuts
also contain some fats that are good for our body, such as
Omega-3 and Omega-6 and Omega-9.
I really don't know what these so-called good fats do for us,
but the short story is that we need them, so for me it is a
pleasure to eat MACADAMIAS and ALMONDS and CASHEW NUTS, etc.,
so am glad that I can eat them.
And that is the END OF THE LIST of foods you can eat.
EVERYTHING ELSE is very bad for your health. Bread...
Tortillas... Pita bread... French bread, black bread, white
bread, blue bread... whole wheat, etc. All bread is about
50% CARBOHYDRATES, so it is about 50% SUGAR for your purpose.
That means a little more than a bite of bread will shoot your
blood glucose UP. So... bread, and everything that looks like
bread is OUT: you can't eat the crust of a pizza, but you can
eat the meat and vegetables of the pizza.
NEXT is SWEETS and CEREALS... OUT... They are all about 75%
CARBOHYDRATE, and that's far too much carbs for your health.
The surprise here is that all those CEREALS that show slim
athletes running or riding bicycles and those nice beautiful
legs on the girls, ARE ALL BAD FOR YOU. Kellog's Special K,
and Whoever's Super Duper Corn Flakes, they are all BAD for your
health because they will shoot your blood glucose levels UP.
I used to eat cereals every day for BREAKFAST, with fruits
and HONEY, because MY MOTHER was fooled by the ads about how
HEALTHY all these bad foods are... so I thought they were healthy,
too. After I bought a glucose meter, I learned that cereals
are 75% Carbohydrate and Carbohydrates are bad if I eat more
than about 10 or 20 grams per meal...
And of course, chocolates and candies and sweets, and dried
fruits and sweet delicious wrinkled raisins and prunes are
all POISON for your pancreas and your kidneys.
And of course, SUGAR is out of the question. Brown sugar,
white sugar, any kind of sugar... Also, honey and maple syrup,
they might be "natural" but they are almost pure carbohydrate,
which is another way of saying they are almost pure SUGAR.
So now the big question: How does taking GROWTH HORMONE affect
if you will or will not get diabetes?
Just assume that you will get diabetes no matter what you do...
So... START TO EAT NOW as if you are already a diabetic... Do
that starting NOW... it will help you so that you WILL NOT become
a diabetic if you aren't already a diabetic, and it will help
you so that you will not get diabetic complications if you are
a diabetic.
So, the big thing to do is: Try To Keep Your Blood Glucose Between
70 and 100 mg/dl, 24 hours a day, every day from NOW UNTIL YOU DIE.
(Note: Dr. Bernstein keeps his blood glucose at 83 mg/dl before and
during and after eating, but that is a bit too strict for me... but
he is diabetic type 1, and he is 72 years old, and he is still
alive... so I can't argue with success, it has been a very good
decision for him.)
But you have NO IDEA what your blood glucose levels ARE unless
you CHECK them. I have checked my blood glucose levels probably
twice as many times as I have injected insulin... so I have
probably checked my blood glucose levels about 20,000 times, or
more... and I still don't know what my blood glucose levels are,
exactly, unless I check it. I can GUESS, and I am usually pretty
right, or not more than 10 or 20 points off what I guessed. But I
still check a lot... less now than I used to, but I still check a
lot. It keeps me sharp and thinking about what my next blood
glucose will be.
So... How does taking GROWTH HORMONE affect how you will be when
you get diabetes, which will be after you die if you keep your
blood glucose controlled starting now?
It affects that you will have FEWER WRINKLES and MORE ENERGY and
you will have a stronger immune system so you will probably not get
SICK as often, and you will have more hair on your head when you
finally become diabetic... But it won't be the CAUSE of your
diabetes.
Take the RIGHT dose of growth hormone starting now, and start
to get the benefit of using growth hormone starting now, and
you will look and feel better if you ever get diabetes while
you are still alive.
Dr. Marley and many other doctors will say that growth hormone
causes resistance to insulin...
and I say that I don't think it does, but if you keep your blood glucose levels low, you will not get resistance to insulin... and if you do become insulin resistant, it won't matter because if you keep your blood glucose
low, you won't need a lot of insulin in your blood anyways.
Keep Your Blood Glucose Controlled, by Hook or by Crook.
I don't care HOW you do it: with metformin, with insulin,
with diet, with exercise, or with all of these. Just keep
blood glucose controlled between 70 and 100 (shoot for 85 mg/dl)
and you will do amazing things to extend your life and your
good health.
So do what else is also good for you, and don't NOT DO whatever
else is good for you because somebody tells you that IT MIGHT be bad for you.
If it is GOOD for you, it is good for you. Finished. Avoid what is bad for you, and do what is good for you... but make sure that what you think is good for you is actually good for you. (ask me...)
But do it. It is more dangerous NOT to take growth hormone,
than it is to take growth hormone. WE ALREADY KNOW what happens if you
do NOT take growth hormone, and it's not very pretty... We don't know what
happens in the long run if we DO take growth hormone... but I have been taking
growth hormone since June, 1998, and it sure has seemed like a very good
experience while I find out what happens "in the long run..."
Just say YES to growth hormone.
Just say NO to SUGAR and HIGH CARBS...
And say NO to doctors who tell you to say NO to growth hormone.
I hope this answered your question. Thanks for writing.
