The best way to sell or rent your timeshare is to do it yourself. Place a small classified ad in Timeshare User's Group classified ads section and you will surely get a few inquieries.
My intention in this article is to tell you briefly how you should sell or rent it, where to advertise it, and why you should join TUG, which is an association of timeshare owners before you try to sell or rent your timeshare. I will give you examples of ads, but you can write them yourself and reach the exact audience you want to read it at Timeshare User's Group.
The single best piece of advice that I can give to anybody who owns or wants to own a timeshare is: "JOIN TIMESHARE USER's GROUP NOW!" (Please tell them "Ellis Toussier" sent you... They will extend my membership and give me a pat on the back, and I really like to get my back scratched!) I really mean it, this is the best advice I can give you.
Why is this such good advice? Because T.U.G. is an association of thousands of timeshare owners, and WE HELP EACH OTHER with information... how to sell... how to buy... how to rent... where to go... what to do when we get there... The advice that we give and receive is truthful, and costs nothing beyond the $15 TUG membership.
I have been a very happy and satisfied member of T.U.G. since 1995. I have gotten so many benefits from it, and saved so much money, and avoided so many mistakes and headaches that I decided I would set up this page to recommend others to come and join us. I cancelled my membership in Interval International and R.C.I. years ago, because I get much better trades, I get much more reliable information, and it costs me hundreds of dollars less each year at Timeshare User's Group.

The worst way to sell your timeshare is falling in a trap to sell through a fraudulent broker. The typical way these guys work is to tell you they have an offer to buy your timeshare, are you interested in them selling it?
That's the bait... Then comes the hook... Please pay $500 up front to list your timeshare and advertise it...
If you do send them your money, you learn why this is a scam: "Goodbye, money." They might list it somewhere, so you can't sue them for fraud, but they will never sell it.
The best way to sell your timeshare is to advertise it YOURSELF on a good media... and the best audience to advertise to is other timeshare owners... Doesn't that make a lot of sense to you?
I always find what I want to buy or sell, or rent what I want to rent in or out, through TUG classified ads. There are more than 2000 "For Sale" ads, and another 2000 "For Rent" ads. (If this is how many ads there are, just imagine how many members there are reading the ads!) Ads are segregated by region, Florida, Hawaii, Western U.S.A., Eastern U.S.A., Mexico, Caribbean, Canada, etc.
You then list it by resort name, week number, price, and then a short description. For example:

Mayan Riviera - Playa Carmen, Mexico (Gold Crown) Season: Red
2 bedrooms 2 baths sleeps 8 Presidential unit - 2BD, 2BA, living, dining & kitchen. Can be divided into 2 seperate units (one-bed plus studio). 6* oceanfront, golf resort. An ad costs $15 for 3 months. It is such an effective media of advertising because it reaches thousands of timeshare owners that are interested in buying or selling timeshares. I usually rent my Villas up to a year in advance, and I have bought several weeks through TUG classified ads. The beauty of it is that we are dealing directly with each other, and we have a tremendous amount of information that we can verify. Novices can consult with experts on the various forums and bulletin boards, and the advice is both good, and free, from a friend to a friend.
I have also saved thousands of dollars buying a timeshare resale at a top rated resort; I have exchanged my week directly with another TUG member; I have rented my timeshare out... I even rented a 2 bedroom villa at Disney Vacation Clubs in Orlando, including 4 passes to the parks for 5 days, for the same cost which I rented my own 2 bedroom villa out! This would have been close to impossible to accomplish through the large exchange organizations, and the passes would definitely not have been included.
In fact, I have even cancelled my membership with the large exchange organizations because I have had so much better results doing my exchanges personally through T.U.G.
